To the Small to Mid-Sized Family Owned Business
By: Kaylin Burr, 2017 Marketing Intern
According to the U.S Bureau of the Census, about 90 percent of American businesses are family owned. A higher number than most people believe. The past two summers I have had the opportunity to intern for two different small to mid-sized family owned companies. I’ve noticed that it’s a different atmosphere the moment you walk into the doors; one that you can’t beat or find anywhere else. Here is my thank you note to not only Stutsmans but to the small to mid-sized family owned business:
Thank you for knowing your employee’s names and making sure the workplace is a home away from home. Thank you for understanding that your work family is just as important as your family at home. You’ve not only kept your employees in mind each day, but you’ve also kept tabs on their life outside of work. When it comes to business decisions, the company welfare isn’t the only thing that is considered but how employees will be affected as well. Thank you for taking chances on many of your employees. Some of these chances may have failed you, but the ones that have succeeded can’t thank you enough for your support.
Thank you for making a larger company feel so small. It makes a difference to be greeted with a smile every morning and asked how your prior evening was. Companies like you are important to have in a world that changes every day. Thank you for investing in the community, youth, and employees themselves. As a college student who values her own family and learning through hands-on work experiences, thank you for an opportunity I can’t get in a lecture hall. Your small town, family-run business has had a much bigger impact than just being another company down the road.
