What is your background?
Bellevue, Iowa is my hometown. It is bordered on the East by the Mississippi River. A truly beautiful place that I treasure. I met my husband while going to school at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. After graduating, I moved to Iowa City and started a family.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Reading is my favorite pastime, followed by gardening in my flower beds. I also love going to see local, live music with my family. Every summer in Iowa City there is an Arts Festival in June and a Jazz Festival in July that I enjoy attending!
What do you consider to be the most rewarding part of your job?
Learning something new each and every day. There are many products and many ways to use each one.
If you had to be a product you work with, what would it be?
Rolled oats!
What is your favorite thing about the ag industry?
I like how Agriculture practices vary greatly across the United States. For the last 4 years I have had wonderful conversations and insights from folks in Alaska all the way to Southern Florida. People sharing what they have learned, and how they have adapted to their climate and circumstances amaze me.
What has been the biggest change in the industry during your tenure here?
The Veterinary Feed Directive compliance/regulation at the start of 2017. This has made changes and adaptation necessary for each producer to absorb and plan for.
If you had to eat the same food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Pasty! (pronounced past-ee) It is a meat and potato pie from Finland that is a family favorite.
If you were stuck on an island, what 3 items would you bring?
Benchmade knife, waterproof Ukulele, and silly putty.
What is something random people do not know about you?
I love to cry! Sad movies, happy movies, laughing like crazy, you name it. My children don’t understand!
What would be the title of your autobiography?
Never Say Never!
