Salford BBI Endurance Meets Poultry Litter Needs
It wasn’t a tough decision for Jesse John when he found our posting for a Salford BBI Endurance spreader on TractorHouse. He knew the kind of dry spreader he was looking for.
“We were looking for a BBI spreader to apply turkey litter,” said Jesse. “It’s a more popular brand and other guys around here were using them.”
There is probably a reason his neighbors were running BBI spreaders; Salford BBI’s binary manifold is known for its precision. The Endurance not only has this manifold, but it is also built to handle heavier, wetter organic matter.
However, when Jesse reached out to equipment salesman Derek Bontrager, precision and accuracy were his main focus: his questions were geared towards adding on scales and the Endurance being rate control ready. When Jesse’s unit leaves Hills, it will not only have the Raven Rate Control Module installed but also scales to increase the accuracy of application.
“Every load (of turkey litter) has a different density,” said Jesse. “We wanted to have scales added to be able to tell what it weighs since weight varies.”
Not only is the Endurance rate control ready but the hopper is available in 14’-24′ lengths and will hold up to 456ft3 of product. The 24’ unit that Jesse purchased is headed to Kansas to predominately spread turkey litter.
Although the Endurance was developed with poultry litter in mind, its versatility allows for the spreading of manure, shavings, lime and other flowable materials using the two, 24” spinner discs.
“We don’t do any custom application, but we’ll spread about 3,000 tons of turkey litter that is hauled in,” said Jesse. “We will probably spread some lime with it too.”
The pull-type Endurance joins our other Salford BBI spreaders and provides our customers with another option for poultry litter. When compared to Artex’s Cyclone beaters (designed specifically for poultry litter), the Endurance is better suited for drier product, like turkey litter, whereas Artex is a better fit for wetter material.
“We wanted to get into that business (poultry litter),” said Derek. “After consulting with Salford, we determined this model of Endurance fit our needs and is a great option for poultry litter.”
