Scott Semler may be new to Stutsman Logistics, but is a veteran in the transportation industry. He started his career as a driver and now has almost 30 years of transportation sales experience. We’re excited to have Scott on our team, help us welcome him!
What is your background?
I’m a local grown guy from Wellman and graduated in ’75 from Mid Prairie High School. I went to Kirkwood for my A.A.S. business marketing degree and graduated in ’77. I’ve been married for 40 years to my lovely wife Sheila who I met at Kirkwood. She’s from Estherville, IA.
Where have you worked before Stutsmans?
I’ve been in trucking my whole career since I graduated from Kirkwood. To my parent’s dismay, I was passionate to start truck driving professionally during and after college. I drove OTR until my wife said, “enough”, then I drove regionally for about 7 years total.
I was promoted by Transport America from a driver to terminal manager, and I started my sales career with them. I sold for Heartland Express for 2 1/2 years then sold at CFI for over 25 years. When XPO bought CFI, I made a change to Covenant/SRT before they downsized in February of 2018. I didn’t see that coming!
Next, I took a used truck sales role at MHC Kenworth with my non-compete until the new opportunity materialized for me at Stutsman Logistics. I’m glad to be a part of a great company and group of people and to be back in the transportation sales world!
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I have a couple of classic cars I enjoy driving and polishing. I also love to golf and boat when time and the weather permits. I enjoy being an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
What is something random most people don’t know about you?
I escaped a grain auger accident while hauling grain in ’77 that nearly took my arm off. Thank God my coveralls got ripped off and I escaped from the auger with my right arm intact, but bruised and scarred. I’m very blessed indeed!
If you had to eat the same food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I love steak and salmon. I could handle that for life.
If you were stuck on an island, what 3 items would you bring?
