Welcome to the Team Jason Brown
As a southeast Iowa native, Jason Brown isn’t far from his hometown of Tipton. With his agricultural business degree from Iowa State University in hand, Jason worked in various parts of the feed industry where he became familiar with the seasonality of products before coming to Stutsman’s in January 2021. Help us welcome our newest feed purchasing agent, Jason Brown!
Tell us about your family.
My wife and I have a 3 ½ year old son and just welcomed a daughter in February.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I enjoy pheasant hunting, golfing (even though I am not very good), fishing, reading about history (especially military history) and watching the Green Bay Packers. My wife and I also farm a little on the side.
How did you get involved in the agricultural industry?
I didn’t grow up on a farm but ever since I was a little kid, I have always been interested in agriculture. When I was in high school and college, I worked on various farms and was exposed to different aspects of the agricultural industry.
What are you most excited for in your new job?
I’m most excited for the culture here. Everyone treats you with respect and values your input. After only working here for a month and half, my wife had a baby and I had people whom I’d hardly talked to before came up to congratulate me and ask about her.
Who has influenced your career the most?
My dad. He worked in corporate human resources and his experiences have helped me understand the business world and how it works.
If you could snap your fingers and become an expert at something, what would it be?
The commodity markets. I enjoy tracking the ups and downs of the Board of Trade but to anticipate what is going to happen, would be nice.
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
To learn how to play golf. An older gentleman told me to learn golf because he had a lot of hobbies when he was younger (like pheasant hunting) that he cannot do now, but he can still golf. Now it’s something I enjoy very much.
What is your favorite season to work in? Why?
Fall. Everything agriculture-wise gets busier in fall and I enjoy the hustle.
What is something random that most people don’t know about you?
I completed an entire RAGBRAI. I’m not exactly Mr. Athletic so people always seem surprised when they find out.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
My children but especially getting to name my son after my grandpa. My son is now the 6th generation in my family to have that name and the look on my grandpa’s face when we told him was worth it.
What is on your bucket list?
To visit the Normandy beaches
Which Stutsman Core Value means the most to you and why?
Value collaboration. Prior experience has shown me the challenges of business when divisions within a company do not work well together. Collaboration with other employees to get the job done right is essential.
