The Stutsman Difference: Used Manure Tanks
We often talk about the Stutsman Difference boiling down to our people, our service and our commitment to doing all we can to best serve our customers. When it comes to used manure equipment, specifically new and used manure tanks, this difference can be described in one word: confidence. Confidence in knowing that every tank traded in has been thoroughly inspected so it’s ready to get in the field as soon as it leaves our equipment lot.
Inspecting used manure tanks
Annually, we see about 55 manure tanks get traded in. Each of these will go through a rigorous inspection checklist by our shop technicians. From hitch and steering mechanism to brakes and lights, our team inspects every piece for wear and damage. While inspecting a used manure tank can go pretty quick, a tank will spend a day or more in the shop depending on its condition and the number of parts that need to be replaced.
Replacing parts
Manure applicators know better than anyone the beating tanks go through given the nature of the job. ‘Wear items’ like wheel bearings and trailing arms take a lot of this abuse. Because of this, when a used manure tank gets traded in, nearly every wheel bearing is removed, the old grease is cleaned out, the bearings inspected, and new grease is repacked into the bearing. The same goes for trailing arms. The bushings on the trailing arms wear out over time so these are also replaced to help with the tank’s suspension.
Careful inspection continues to the toolbar as well. Hoses will be replaced if there are any holes, kinks or are wearing thin. Hydraulic lines are inspected for leaks and the wings and wing mounts are checked over too. Our technicians also measure the blades to make sure they don’t need to be replaced.
Between the rigorous checklist and our sales team’s knowledge of the tank’s history, the Stutsman Difference provides that added confidence in knowing it’s not just a used manure tank. The ‘refurbished’ status also means there’s less chance you’ll be calling us for a repair when you get up and running for the season. But know that if something does break, our team’s commitment to service doesn’t end at purchase.
