It’s Pre-Harvest Inspection Time!
As we inch closer and closer to fall, it’s time to do a pre-harvest inspection of your grain handling equipment. This includes grain bins, augers, heaters, fans, and dryers. Pre-inspections can fix problems before you’re ready to fill the bin, saving you valuable time (and headaches) during the rush of the season.
Here is our pre-harvest inspection/maintenance checklist for grain handling equipment:
- Are there chewed wires & mouse nests?
- Do gearboxes have:
- Proper oil levels
- Lubrication
- Non-leaking oil seals
- Inspect Seals:
- Between bottom of bin and concrete pad
- Around doors
- Between fan and bin
- If there are gaps or cracks, fill with heat resistant outdoor caulk. Losing air before it can travel through the grain not only reduces the efficacy of your dryer but also increases your drying cost.
- Don’t forget to grease bearings
Completing a pre-harvest inspection and maintenance routine for your grain handling equipment is essential to avoid unexpected issues during the busy harvest season. For any questions or pre-harvest repair needs, chat with our grain handling specialists.
