October STRIVEr: Michael Shelor
Our October STRIVEr was in the right place at the right time. Michael Shelor, over-the-road driver, was just checking his mail when he smelled smoke. Taking the lead, he prevented what could have been a major disaster. Read how Michael set the bar higher and earned October STRIVEr honors.
Nomination:
“Michael drove into the Hills terminal in the wee hours of a Friday morning. As he was checking his mailbox in the corporate office, he could smell and see smoke in the warehouse area. He was hesitant to walk through the warehouse since he doesn’t have the authorization to but made the decision to go check it out, and it’s a good thing he did! After some investigation he came upon a room filled with smoke and a plastic trash barrel that had burnt to ashes. He scooped the smoldering remains into the street, which burst into flames because of the oxygen that was introduced. He stayed until it burnt out completely.
Michael took the lead, set the bar higher and exceeded expectations by investigating and taking the steps to contain a situation that could have easily been catastrophic.”
