Monovet® 90 Now Approved For Use With Pennchlor®
Huvepharma’s Monovet® 90 (monensin Type A medicated article), the first FDA-approved generic monensin, is now FDA-approved for combination use with Pennchlor® (chlortetracycline Type A medicated article). The combination use approval covers beef calves two months of age, as well as heifers and steers fed in confinement for slaughter. Feeds that contain this combination can only be used under the order of a licensed veterinarian.
This approval ultimately gives producers more choices. “We know that beef cattle producers need as many choices as possible to ensure the health and safety of cattle. The opportunity to use the products in combination means producers can manage the health of the animal without the stress of pulling cattle out of the pen,” said Dr. Jay Johnson, Technical Service Ruminant Nutritionist for Huvepharma. “Less stress can lead to a better gain response in the animal” (Huvepharma, 2023).
Being able to use Monovet® 90 and Pennchlor® in Type B and C medicated feeds expands the possibilities for producers and their herd health. As such, this approval also gives you the tools to better serve your cattle-producing customers. For more information on Monovet® 90 specifically, check out our previous blog post here.
