Medicated Crumbles: A Cheat Sheet for Herd Health
As we start to experience a fluctuation in temperatures and humidity, your customers will likely be mindful of bovine respiratory disease (BRD) and incorporating medicated crumbles as a proactive step or treatment to their herd health.
This is a very crucial time to keep an eye on cattle for any signs of BRD also known as shipping fever. In simple terms, BRD refers to any disease in the upper and lower respiratory tracts. BRD is multifactorial and can be caused by a combination of viral, bacterial, parasitic and fungal pathogens, but commonly associated with infections in the lungs causing pneumonia. BRD typically impacts post-weaned calves, feedlots, dairy calves and lactating cows.
One of the more popular questions our feed team receives during this time is ‘what is the recommended feeding rate for (insert brand) medicated crumbles?’ Below is a cheat sheet to hopefully help you and your customers when it comes time to incorporate medicated crumbles. As always, reach out to your TSM or customer service team (319.679.5211) with any questions you may have. If you are not a current Stutsman dealer but would like to purchase any of these products, find a Stutsman dealer near you.
