In agricultural production, fighting off insects is a constant battle. These pests lower grain quality in bins, affect animal health and production, and can even cause damage to buildings and stored goods. It pays to invest in insect control solutions, and our recommendation is INSECTO. INSECTO is great for controlling insects in grain bins, poultry production, and buildings/warehouses.
INSECTO is derived from saltwater diatomaceous earth and is an odorless and non-staining powder. This product absorbs insects’ body fluids, causing dehydration. INSECTO is effective for insect control within two weeks of exposure. As a chemical-free option, it is registered for use in organic production.
It can be used on the following commodities: wheat, corn, barley, rice, buckwheat, oats, flax, peas, sorghum (milo), feed, seed, rye, soybeans, popcorn, peanuts, cocoa beans, feed grains and dry edible beans.
INSECTO is effective on the following insects: rice weevil, granary weevil, flat grain beetle, rusty grain beetle, sawtoothed grain beetle, merchant grain beetle, lesser grain beetle, lesser grain borer, larger grain borer, red flour beetle, cigarette beetle, Angoumois grain moths, darling beetles, and lessor meal worms. It’s also effective on newly-hatched larvae of Indian meal moth, red flour beetle, and sawtoothed grain beetle.
- Clean bin
- Measure the correct amount of INSECTO (see chart below)
- Turn on the aeration fan that blows into bin
- Pour INSECTO into the air flow as fast as the fan will allow
- Turn off fan when dust starts blowing from the top of the bin
Apply 1-2 pounds of INSECTO per ton of grain to the top 2-3 feet of the bin.
Warehouses and Buildings
Dust floors, walls, and ceilings at the rate of 1 pound per 1000 square feet of surface area. INSECTO can also be applied to areas of infestation and entry points where insects hide: wall bases, cracks, crevices, and doors.
INSECTO is approved for application before and after bird placement, and controls darkling beetles, lesser mealworms, and lice. Just apply to litter at 1-2 pounds per ton and top dress surface area and side walls at 4 pounds per 1,000 square feet.
