Time Well Spent

Amber MApril 12, 2018Agronomy, General

Agriculture is a special industry where traditions run deep, and hard work comes naturally. Across the countryside, it is common to find farmers who have given their lives to their work. The more rare sighting is finding an agronomist who has dedicated their life to their work as long as Bill Langenberg has. Born and raised an Iowa farm boy, Bill has followed his love of the land.

Bill and his wife Ruth are residences of Iowa City where they have raised 3 children and are now enjoying their 5 grandchildren. After graduating high school from Saint Marys of Iowa City in 1952, Bill chose to further his education in agriculture at Iowa State University. From there, an honorable career as an agronomy salesman ensued.

In 58 years of serving his family, friends, neighbors and community members, Bill has watched agriculture change from 2 bottom plows to 45’ tillage equipment. Cell phones, computers, GPS, and VRT have not only evolved in his career, but they became a handy tool for him. Although Bill embraced these changes with an open mind, his goal across his career remained the same; help his customers grow a better crop.

Bill has been described by his customers as a positive person who always ended visits on a good note. “His service was always thorough and he always had knowledge to share” one customer commented. Not only has Bill valued their business and support, but his customers have held his service to high regard.

Do not let Bill’s busy career fool you, on occasion, he was able to find some time for fun. Bill has quite the collection of awards from his time spent classic tractor pulling. 275 trophies and 60 plaques line the walls of his shop. This shop is home to his Farmalls and Olivers that he has repaired and restored himself.

Bill plans to spend his time after retirement with his wife and family.  He also plans to spend more time driving his beloved tractors on more tractor rides in the surrounding area.

A career like Bill’s is certainly one to celebrate and look up too. From all of us at Stutsmans, we wish Bill well and thank him for his time serving the industry we love.

The Nitrogen Cycle

The nitrogen cycle is a complex chain of microbial and chemical processes that play a major role in crop production. Nitrogen takes up about 78% of our atmosphere and is one of the 17 essential nutrients necessary for plants to complete their life cycle.
