Celebrating America’s Unsung Heroes
Truck drivers; you see them all the time, but have you ever stopped to think about the crucial role they play in the success of our economy? Take a look at your surroundings. Everything around you has been impacted by the transportation industry in one way or another. Without millions of men and women combatting weather elements, poor road conditions, and crazy motorists, our access to the wide variety of products we are accustomed to would diminish. If you think that is being dramatic, think again. According to Brenda Neville, President & CEO of Iowa Motor Truck Association, 70% of communities just in Iowa are completely reliant on trucks for delivery of daily needed products.More

Dollars & Sense

“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results,” Albert Einstein. If you do what you’ve always done you will get, most often times, the same results. We know that commodity prices are not what they were. Land, and more importantly, rent prices, are not settling to where we think they should be. We simply can’t keep doing the same things we have done in the past in hopes of making it through the next few years; that is if we still want to be growing crops in the future. Especially considering the USDA’s long-term projections show corn under $4.00 through 2024. Maximizing the use of your data not only saves dollars but it just makes sense.More
Legislators Visit for a Day in Ag
According to Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world.” As the gap between society and agriculture continues to widen, we couldn’t agree more. Now, more than ever, it’s critical we help educate those who do not get the chance to experience and understand the ag industry. Since state and local legislators are often faced with decisions on regulating the ag industry, we wanted to take some time out of our day to share with them the technology and practices we work with every day. With help in coordinating from Senator Kevin Kinny, we had a group of state and local legislators join us on September 1st, 2016.More
Palmer on the Move
If you’ve been keeping up-to-date with our blog, then you are aware of Iowa State Extension’s article tracking Palmer Amaranth and its move into Iowa. Recently, Iowa State updated their count of infestations to 14 counties; including Washington, Muscatine, and Cedar. While Iowa State Extension is doing a really great job of tracking the move, it would be unrealistic to think that they could possibly identify every single plant that is out there. This means Palmer may be in a field in Johnson County, completely headed out with viable seeds and about to be strewn through the back of a combine. This is bad news for us. More
