April STRIVEr: Matt Mapel
Even though it was very early on a Saturday, our April STRIVEr did not let that stop him from setting the bar higher to protect Bazooka Farmstar’s servers and other IT equipment. Read the nomination below to learn more about how Matt Mapel took the lead in a power outage.
Nomination
On Saturday morning, at approximately 1:50 a.m., Matt informed me he received alerts of some power issues/outages at Bazooka Farmstar. As such, Matt was going to drive down to Bazooka to make sure our systems could be properly shut down as hard shutdowns are very hard on servers and other IT equipment. Concurrently, Matt was attempting to contact location personnel to make them aware of the problem. At 5:30 a.m., I called Matt to get an update. He still hadn’t made contact with local personnel, so he was personally trying to troubleshoot as he could (checking breakers and making reports to Alliant). I was getting ready to head down when Matt was able to make contact with local personnel and the power company. At 8 a.m., Alliant was on the scene to fix the electrical issue, then Matt worked from 8:30 a.m. through 11 a.m. to safely start up the IT equipment. As a result, our equipment did not experience any damage. This example is not abnormal for Matt; he consistently sets the bar higher and takes the lead by problem-solving and providing unique solutions with the company’s best interest in mind.
